Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing pain and weakness with on and off cramping in my biceps. And I also feel fatigued all over my body. I am afraid. Are these symptoms of ALS?

Answered by Dr. Aida Abaz Quka

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms are not typical of ALS because the location of the biceps weakness is not typical of this disorder.

The fatigue may be related to different possible causes:

- Anemia.

- Vitamin B12 or Vitamin D deficiency.

- Thyroid gland dysfunction.

- Dehydration or low blood pressure.

For this reason, I would recommend performing some blood lab tests:

- Complete blood count.

- Thyroid hormone levels.

- Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 plasma levels.

- Blood electrolytes.

If the weakness of the biceps persists, I would recommend performing nerve conduction studies.

In the meantime, I would recommend taking Magnesium supplements to help against fatigue.

I hope you will find this answer helpful.

I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need them.

Kind regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
