Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 34-year-old female. I got a grade 1 fatty liver after gaining 15 kilograms. I am 80 kilograms now. Will this fatty liver get reversed to a normal healthy liver once I lose my weight and reach my BMI? Could you please suggest some lifestyle changes that would help me to have a healthy liver?

Answered by Dr. Yash Kathuria

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. Due to an increase in the fat in the body, the liver tends to retain much fat leading to fatty liver. In long term, this may lead to inflammation of the liver and also have a chance of liver cirrhosis if not controlled early. I would suggest you to make some lifestyle changes.

  1. Avoid fatty food and junk food, and cut down on non-vegetarian food.
  2. Increase the number of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet by at least 3 to 4 servings daily.
  3. Exercise for at least 30 minutes daily, or if you can join a gym for a good workup that would be great.
  4. Cut down on sugary food, biscuits, and packed food from your diet.
  5. Flax seeds have shown a very good response in fatty liver due to high omega 3 fatty acids content. So take 1/2 teaspoon of flax seeds twice daily.
  6. Target weight loss should be 5 % in 3 months.

If you follow these lifestyle changes your fatty liver would be surely reversed at this stage.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
