Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

A dog tried to bite me on the road. I withdrew my hand fast and so it has teeth just grazed my skin. I thoroughly inspected my hand and there was no cuts or bleeding. I washed my hand after the incident and it has been one week since the episode. Yesterday, I started the rabies vaccine course (Day 0) as a preventive measure. But I have been experiencing a bit of a sore throat and dry mouth and slight temperature for the past week. I would like some advice from you given I have always been susceptible to colds.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is unlikely to be rabies.

I suggest having tablet Azithromycin 500 mg once a day along with some antacid like tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg before breakfast once a day for five days if this sore throat persists for more than three days.

For now, I suggest Betadine (Povidone-Iodine) gargles four times a day. For cough, I suggest syrup Alex (Phenylephrine, Chlorpheniramine, and Dextromethorphan) two teaspoons whenever needed up to three times a day and tablet Allegra (Fexofenadine) 120 mg once a day for three to four days, if developed running nose. Avoid cold food items. For temperature, you may have Paracetamol 500 mg whenever needed. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicines with their consent.

Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
