Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a 2.5-year-old pet dog. We usually go for walks in a nearby park. Yesterday, as usual, when we took our evening walk, my dog got into a fight with one of the stray dogs. We returned home, and I did not notice anything yesterday. However, today morning I noticed that my dog was limping a bit, and when I inspected it, he was bit near his left foot. I immediately applied antiseptic cream. My dog is vaccinated correctly, but I still am worried if there are any chances of him being affected by rabies. Should I take him to a doctor, or am I worrying too much?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It would help if you had washed your pet bite wound as soon as you saw it. However, the chances of rabies are minimal. It is best to vaccinate the dog by visiting a local practitioner in your area. It would help if you also get vaccinated with a two-dosage regimen as per centers for disease control and prevention (CDC) guidelines.

Thank you.
