Common "Fetal Lung Maturity" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Fetal Lung Maturity

Fetal lungs can be called matured when they produce enough surfactant. This usually is possible after 35th to 36th week of gestation when nearing delivery. Fetal lung maturity can be tested with the help of Lamellar body count (LBC), which is a rapid test. This test measures the amount of surfactant stored in the lamellar bodies. Surfactant is stored in the lamellar bodies and then released in the alveolar space.
