HomeAnswersPediatricsfeverMy daughter got back the fever after taking medicines. Why?

What should be the time interval between drugs given to an 8-year-old child for fever?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 8-year-old daughter is having a fever for two days. I took her to a pediatrician and he gave me Brufen 14.5 ml to alternate with Panado 8.5 ml dose, every 8 hours. But the problem is, after taking the medicine, the temperature goes down, but after three hours it goes up again. So the question is, do I have to wait eight hours to give her the medicines or can I reduce the intervals?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As per the information provided, your daughter is only having a fever and no other problems.

For fever use these medications as mentioned below -

1. Syrup Panadol (Paracetamol 250mg/5ml) - 8 ml as and when needed. You can repeat this every 4 hours if required.

2. Syrup Brufen (Ibuprofen 100 mg/5ml) - 12.5 ml if the fever does not subside within one hour of Paracetamol, or if the fever recurs before 4 hours of Paracetamol. You can repeat it every 8 hours if required.

However, please consult a physician, discuss with them, and start taking the medications with their consent.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and take care.
