I noticed a single fibroid in my scan report. Can I have leiomyosarcoma at 45 years?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 45 years old and I have a fibroid. I did an ultrasound last week. It looks like an interior fibroid and it started to degenerate. I have this issue for a couple of years. My doctor suggests me to do a biopsy to rule out leiomyosarcoma. I have attached the ultrasound report. My ultrasound sound shows a mass within the cervix and a uterus lining of 48 mm with a mass within it. There is the presence of a single fibroid tumor and it is in the right anterior with subserosal. My left ovary is normal and the right ovary is not seen due to fibroid. The mass is enlarged from the fundas to the cervix. The pap smear report suggests the presence of atypical glandular cells of undetermined significance. The presence of atypical squamous cells cannot rule out a high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion and HPV is negative.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Though there are rare chances to have leiomyosarcoma, it is always better to get checked once by the gynecologist. The degenerative changes and increase in the size of the tumor arise as suspicions. Though it could be a simple degenerative fibroid, it should be examined to make sure it. Do a biopsy soon and revert with reports to guide you further.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Does leiomyosarcoma present as a single fibroid? I have two of them. As it is degenerating, it cannot be cancer. The cancerous cells do not show degeneration. Can it be aggressive?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your right, degeneration is a good sign and it rules out cancer. Leiomyosarcoma has a rapid growth and it increases in size. On considering the size and pap report, biopsy helps to rule out the suspicion. Revert with the report to guide you further.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
