Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My daughter got a fishbone embedded in her throat. It was shown in the x-ray. But the doctor was unable to view it when he went through the throat with an endoscope last night, and it was close to an artery. What can be done?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Kindly provide me the x-ray films and the endoscopic picture (if you have). Where was the fishbone stuck exactly? Does the doctor said about the level? What are the present complaints? When did it happen?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I went to an ENT doctor whom I know very well. He was unable to take the bone out. What is the procedure done to get the bone out? She has difficulty in swallowing.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If the bone is dug into the tissues and gone deep, depending on the location and level, we may need to do open surgery. Sometimes a laryngoscope or hypopharyngoscope or esophagoscope will help, and we can visualize the bone, and we can it take out. If the bone has gone deep, then we may need to look for the bone inside. It is better to get it removed as soon as possible. It is advisable to put the patient in the course of an antibiotic. If the bone is close to the vessel, then we have to be very careful while removing and open surgery is necessary.
