Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have got a follicle infection in my left armpit one week back. Initially, I had only one swelling, and it broke, and I cleaned it, pressing out the pus. Now I got a second one, and I consulted a doctor. They are telling surgery is the only cure for this issue. She prescribed me: 1. Tablet Chymotrypsin one tablet in the morning and night for three days. 2. Tablet Cepodem XP one tablet in the morning and night for three days. 3. Tablet Sompraz D one tablet in the morning for three days. 4. Mupirocin ointment to apply. They are asking me to plan for surgery and get back. Is surgery the only option left? I felt kind of business in the way they push me for surgery. Could you please advise me on this? I have attached the image.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I hope you are keeping safe. I have seen the attached photo (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) and read your history. It looks like you have folliculitis, which has turned into an abscess (a deeper tissue infection). Such abscesses are hard to treat just with oral antibiotics as there maybe tracts formed inside the tissue, which is better dealt with an incision and drainage. A culture and sensitivity study will be done from the area to understand which antibiotic the organism will be sensitive to. As you have already taken a course for oral antibiotics and have not healed much, it is better to go for the incision they have suggested. Continue the medications for a total of 5 days to complete the course of the antibiotics.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I started having tablets yesterday evening. So shall I wait for two more days to see if there is any healing?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. You can complete the course and see if there is any healing. But there would probably be just a minimal reduction in the inflammation. But the incision would be the best plan.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
