Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had an ulcer 11 years ago and have been on Prilosec 20 milligrams daily. I have been hardly religious about them, and maybe I will miss a week or two here and there. My question is that occasionally, I will have times when I get hunger pains when my stomach is empty. Sometimes, they last a day or two, sometimes a couple of weeks at a time. I sometimes think it might be a little bit anxiety-related, as I have generalized anxiety. I do not suffer from any other symptoms. I notice it when I am at work and do not have enough time, but it is not as noticeable before bedtime. Only during the daytime. What is the reason for this, and should I be concerned? Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Actually, stress is the main reason behind such pain because whenever we are under stress or thinking about something constantly, our stomach automatically releases acids, and it is not in control as well. These symptoms can be due to anxiety (a feeling of fear, dread, and uneasiness). So please do not worry. The pain is not due to ulcers because ulcer pain is more severe, and it comes with other symptoms like weakness and sometimes blood in stool, but nothing much. This has been seen in your case, so please do not worry. It is due to stress only. I would recommend that you continue with your current treatment plan. Avoid hot and oily foods. Frequent and frequent exercise will greatly benefit you, so make an effort to exercise on a regular basis. Simply take a tablet Omeprazole (a proton pump inhibitor) when the pain is unbearable. Otherwise, there is no need. Consult your doctor and take medicines accordingly.
I hope this information will help you.
Kindly revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
