Gastroschisis

Gastroschisis is a rare birth defect (congenital anomaly) in which the baby has an abdominal wall defect. This leads to a hole in the abdominal wall, causing a part of the baby's intestines and some organs to extrude out of the baby's body. About 90 % of babies born with the defect survive, and the defect can be corrected surgically. Most babies born with gastroschisis lead a normal life without complications.
