Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have genital herpes, and I want to know the maximum I can do or take to heal them faster. Already I am taking Zovirax 2 grams daily and using Fucidin topical cream.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per the treatment guidelines, the following needs to be provided.

Zovirax (Acyclovir) - 400 mg orally three times a day for 5 to 10 days or Valacyclovir 500 mg to 1 g orally twice a day for 5 to 10 days. The optimum duration of therapy is about seven days. The guidelines also state that combined oral and topical treatment is no additional benefit.

Genital herpes caused by HSV (herpes simplex virus)-2 infection has been shown to double the risk of becoming infected with HIV through sexual transmission. The ulcers and breaks in the genital mucosa and skin caused by HSV-2 infection facilitate entry of HIV. In addition, the transmission of HIV is more likely from people who also have HSV-2, possibly because of high titers of HIV in genital secretions during HSV-2 reactivation.
