Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Can you tell me if this is genital warts or not?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Is there only one lesion? Please tell me about your sexual history. Since when it appeared? Yes, it is a wart. Genital warts have various clinical variants like small papular, cauliflower-like, sessile, flat-topped papules or plaques, etc. Sometimes it can be associated with bleeding, ulceration, and secondary infection. Investigations like Acetowhite test-HPV, skin biopsy, detection of HPV DNA, and serology test can help in diagnosis. Spontaneous regression occurs in 10 to 15 percent cases. Surgical methods such as cauterization, excision under local anesthesia, and cryocautery or CO2 laser are the treatment of choice. Is your partner affected by HPV? Do you have a history of injury?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I noticed it yesterday. I have only one lesion. I had unprotected oral sex a few months ago. I got tested afterward, and everything was negative. Obviously, they could not test for HPV. Could it be a Fordyce gland/spot?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Warts can be single or multiple, soft, painless growths that look like a cauliflower. They may appear around genitals in both men and women. Also, local application of 20 percent Podophyllin should be repeated weekly until the lesions are cleared (under medical supervision only), not by self. Sometimes they are treated by cautery. Get biopsy of lesion done for confirmation of diagnosis. On skin biopsy, for koilocytes (HPV) genital warts, there will be mature squamous cells with a large clear peri-nuclear zone and smudgy nucleus. Fordyce spots are also treated with CO2 laser and are benign, harmless lesions only of cosmetic concern.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
