Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a moderate cough for the past two weeks. I have sputum rarely. I do not have a fever or any problem with swallowing. But I can feel the pain while touching my throat below the jaw. I had a runny nose two weeks back but now it is gone. So I do not have a runny nose now. I took Augmentin 625 mg before two to three days back and my condition became better after taking it. Now it is back and it gets triggered at night. I also have a lot of gas.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You seem to have gastroesophageal reflux disease. This condition develops with a dry cough at night, sore throat, and causes a burning sensation in the stomach. Please mention whether you have any recent history of weight gain. Sleep disturbance causes gas problems. Normally, our body produces 12 to 16 liters of gas. People sleeping for six to eight hours will not have any gas problem.

The Probable causes

You seem to have stress and sleep disturbance.

Differential diagnosis

You seem to have a cold and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).

Probable diagnosis

You have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Treatment plan

You can take tablet Sompraz (Levosulpride and Esomeprazole) two times a day. Take Gaviscon 5 ml three times a day. You can take Duphalac syrup 15 ml (Lactulose) at night.

Preventive measures

Follow sleep hygiene and avoid taking spicy foods.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
