Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been struggling with pressure under my ribs and tightness in my chest for 5 years. It is on and off, but mostly it gives me a hard time to come through. I feel hard to belch often. I have taken Esomeprazole and Nexium to keep the reflux down, but the tightness and other awful symptoms are still there. I have been diagnosed with nonerosive esophagitis and some doctors think that it might be erosive as well. One of the hospitals here has offered me a fundoplication for my problem. Also, I was informed that could give me 80% chances to be free of symptoms. I have been diagnosed with hiatus hernia. Also, this gives me anxiety and heart palpitations. Sometimes, I am waking up at night with a feeling of heart attack. I have checked my heart; and everything is healthy.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I've carefully reviewed your health query and fully understand your concerns. It appears that your symptoms are likely attributed to GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), which involves acid reflux causing damage to the esophagus and potentially other areas of the body. Often, hiatal hernia is a significant factor contributing to GERD. To effectively address the issues, it's crucial to correct the hernia. Without hernia correction, the benefits achieved might be limited. It's important to recognize that addressing GERD comprehensively is essential. Take care.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Do you agree that fundoplication would be a great option for me? Is that a safe surgery?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. I truly value your follow-up inquiry and understand the gravity of your health concerns. Seeking a second opinion before making significant decisions about serious health matters is always a prudent choice. You're not alone in facing this issue, as GERD affects over 20% of the population. For severe cases of GERD, laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication is regarded as one of the most effective surgical approaches. It has shown promising results, with patients experiencing significant improvements post-procedure. I advise you to diligently follow the guidance of your healthcare professionals for a deeper understanding and more favorable outcomes. Wishing you the best for brighter days ahead.
