Is there a need to visit the hospital ER when there is increased blood pressure and dizziness during pregnancy?

Hello doctor,

I am 31 years old, 35 weeks and three days pregnant (second pregnancy). I had dizziness and recorded blood pressure at night and it was 140/100 mm of Hg and an hour after recorded which showed 130/90 mm of Hg. In consecutive checking the blood pressure dropped till 120/90 mm of Hg. Should I visit the hospital ER in emergency? Is 90 mm of Hg diastolic high? I had gestational hypertension when I was almost 40 weeks pregnant during my first pregnancy. Kindly help.

I can understand your concern.

I would suggest visiting the ER as you have dizziness as well as blood pressure on the higher side. In case of symmptomatic high BP, I would suggest getting a urine, renal and liver function test, and electronic fetal monitoring. If protein is there in the urine, it could be preeclampsia (very alarming form of high BP).
