Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had pain in the gums for one week. It is a throbbing pain that comes on and off but hurts a lot. Because of this, I also had discomfort in the throat, and my voice changed. I also had ear and chest pain. Will taking antibiotics make me fine? Or is this serious?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I reviewed your attached files (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) there is no serious problem. You are suffering from gum disease. But you have referred pain, so you need a dental check-up. Never take any medication without a registered practitioner's advice, especially antibiotics. So remove the fear from your mind and visit to a dental office for a clinical examination and dental X-ray. There is an infection in your gums which is a common problem.

My advice:

  1. Have a routine dental check-up once every six months.
  2. Refrain from taking too hot or too cold foods.
  3. Brushing and flossing twice daily.
  4. Use lukewarm water with a pinch of salt to rinse your mouth, or use Hexidine (Chlorhexidine Gluconate) mouthwash twice daily, morning and night.

Thank you.
