Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Hello doctor, I have one side of the chest larger than the other. I am not sure whether it is a larger picture or if it is gynecomastia? Please help

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I saw the files you have attached (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity).

In the supine position, more elevation is noted around the left nipple than the right nipple.

Gynecomastia is a benign enlargement of the male breast (usually bilateral but sometimes unilateral) resulting from a proliferation of the glandular component of the breast.

There is a term called lipomastia or psuedogynecomastia, which is due to excess fat deposition and seen in obese individuals. It does not look like lipomastia, and also, in the picture, your body does not look like obese.

Physiologic gynecomastia is seen in newborn infants, pubescent adolescents, and the elderly.

Please reply to the below questions to guide you further.

1. Since how many days have you noticed such a change?

2. Any pain around the nipple area or any nipple discharge?

3. Any history of medicine that could cause gynecomastia?

Looking at the picture (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity), some difference is noted around the nipple area. But I am not very sure of it.

Clinically on palpation, it is felt as rubbery or firm mass around the nipple area.

USG (ultrasound) of the breast may be needed to rule out whether it is gynecomastia or not.

I would suggest you visit a local doctor as a physical examination is necessary to diagnose it, and relevant medical history is required to find the cause of the condition.

Hope this helps.
