Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Since last year my hair has started falling. I ignored my hair fall and thought it was due to stress. My hair is thinning, and I have a lot of dandruff. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the information and image (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) provided by your end, and I understand your concern. Hair falls and thinning are usually due to family history, especially from the maternal side of the family having similar conditions, and get transmitted genetically due to hormonal fluctuations, stress, as you have mentioned, dandruff, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and so on. Firstly, it is important to rule out any deficiencies if the other factors are not linked to the hair loss you are currently facing. I suggest you do the following-

1. Blood tests, including serum vitamin B 12, vitamin D3, ferritin, and TFT (thyroid function tests), may be done to rule out any vitamin and mineral deficiencies

2. Scalpe plus shampoo (Ketoconazole, Zinc pyrithione, and Piroctone olamine) may be applied for dandruff every three days. Apply three to four drops of the shampoo mixed in 1/3rd cup of water (the cup used for bathing), massage into scalp for one minute, and keep for five minutes and wash off.

3. Follihair (Biotin) new tablet to be taken after dinner for three months.

4. Anaboom anti-hair fall serum may be applied in a half a teaspoon on a clean, dry scalp and massaged into the scalp. Leave overnight and wash off for hair growth stimulation. It may be used for at least one year

5. PRP scalp treatments (platelet-rich plasma) done once a month for six sessions at a dermatologist's clinic may help. In this procedure, around 2 to 2.5 half a teaspoon of your blood sample is used to extract the natural growth factors and nutrients present in your blood which are then injected back into your scalp using a small syringe. They help reduce hair fall, increase hair density, stimulate hair growth, and reduce dandruff.

6. Make sure to consume enough protein in your diet with egg whites.

7. For two months, protein powder, one teaspoon mixed in one glass of skimmed milk in the morning after breakfast, maybe consumed for hair growth stimulation.

Kindly revert in case of variations in blood tests to provide supplements from my end.

Dandruff can be on and off and may require consistent use of shampoo.

Thank you.
