Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am very stressed and scared regarding my hair. I have noticed my hair loss five months ago. I can see my scalp through my hair when I run my fingers in my hair. Although I have not experienced any hair shedding I feel my hair is getting thinner and it can get worse with time. My vertex is getting bigger but is in a straight line. I would also mention that I have vitamin D deficiency and have used air sprays continuously for one year in 2018. I have been going through a lot of stress due to school issues. I have been smoking for the last year and have stopped in past two weeks. I am taking Melatonin and Motiv aid. I can not figure out what kind of hair loss it is. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. The causes of hair loss could be hormonal, insufficient protein intake, lack of proper nutrition, mental stress, vitamin deficiency, use of gels/hair procedures/styling, genetic, or an autoimmune disease. I will suggest you, consult your dermatologist and have,

  1. Ecomax (Cholecalciferol) D3 sachet once a week in a glass of milk for six weeks.
  2. Use Xgain shampoo twice a week for four weeks
  3. Take tablet Perfectil Plus (Microcrystalline hydroxyapatite, Calcium phosphate, Magnesium oxide, Ascorbic acid, and Vitamin E) once daily after food for 30 days.
  4. Apply 5 % Minoxidil solution half a teaspoon in the morning and in the evening for three months.
  5. Use Anaboom shampoo (Zinc pyrithione, Amodimethicone, Bromelain) twice a week while on Minoxidil.

I would say that nutrition is key to healthy hair. So Eat healthy and nutritious food. And would also recommend,

  1. Quit smoking as smoking decreases blood supply to hair follicles and causes hair loss.
  2. Avoid taking stress as it is also a contributory factor for hair loss.
  3. Exercise daily to keep the hormonal balance intact.
  4. Avoid using gels.
  5. Have protein-rich food as they are essential for hair growth.
  6. Increase the level of protein in the diet by eating eggs, fish, chicken, curd, yogurt, lentils, pulses, walnuts, almonds, etc.
  7. Also have a diet rich in zinc, biotin, vitamins, and iron.
  8. Never comb wet hair and avoid vigorous combing.
  9. Use a broad tooth comb with a wide space between two teeth of the comb
  10. Avoid hot shower baths.
  11. Avoid oiling as oil acts as food for dandruff.
  12. Get Hb (hemoglobin), serum ferritin, serum TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), and hormonal profile DHEA (Dihydroepiandrosterone) levels done.

Thank you.
