Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have hair loss. I have tried using Finasteride (5-alpha reductase inhibitor or DHT inhibitors). However, after taking it for a year, my hair loss got worse then I took Dutasteride for thirteen months but my hair loss is still progressing. I have taken blood tests and no deficiencies have been detected. The reports showed that I have got a healthy body. I am wondering if I could get a prescription for a higher dosage of Dutasteride. I currently take 0.5 mg but would like to trial 2.5 mg. I have read in current studies that Dutasteride is dosage dependant in regards to its efficacy. Is that true? Could you please tell me about it? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern. In my opinion, higher doses of Dutasteride are related to increased side effects. There have been many side effects that have been noted with Dutasteride when taken orally. These side effects include gynecomastia, decreased libido, ejaculation disorders, and impotence. I hope this helped. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for your response. I can say that I am entirely aware of this. But where can I get this medication prescribed with a higher dosage? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Different dermatologists have different treatment methods. I would like to suggest you combination therapy of oral medications along with topical Minoxidil and platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) if you are suffering from androgenetic alopecia. The dose of Dutasteride is 0.5 mg, which I recommend for androgenetic alopecia. But if you have some other kind of hair loss like telogen effluvium or alopecia areata, the above treatment method will not work. I advise you to first get appropriately diagnosed and then get treatment. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
