Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have hair loss on my temples from wearing tight braids. The hair loss has been there for about 10 years and it has not gotten worse or anything. Is there a treatment or prescription I can try before going the hair transplant route? I am on Nuva ring for birth control. I tried Rogaine for four months but stopped for no real reason. I just did not see any results. I do not have any lab tests for this issue.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This is traction alopecia. It is a type of alopecia due to tight braids and hairstyles that put pressure over the roots. Unfortunately due to pressure effects scarring occur and there is no such topical cream or lotion available for regrowth of hair. You have told that you are using Rogaine (Minoxidil) without effects and so, the only option left is transplantation. You can also try PRP (platelet-rich plasma) in this area along with Minoxidil spray. It can give you good results.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
