Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I recently had a bad reaction after taking the Haldol injection. I had taken the injection for headache and dizziness three to four days ago. I could not move, and I had spasms in my back and legs. I stared at the ceiling as I could not sleep properly. My mother got worried and took me to a hospital. They gave me the tablet Morphine or Cogentin, but I do not remember the name clearly. It stopped twitching after I took the medications. They also gave me Benadryl syrup to reverse the effect of the Haldol injection. I had little bit twitching, so they gave me the tablet Valium for muscle spasms and anxiety. They also told me that Haldol was no longer in my system. It has been two full days, but I feel like it is still in me. I can not sleep, and I vomit when I eat something. I also take tablet Zofran for nausea which does not help much. I have reduced appetite. What do i do? I feel like I am going crazy because everyone is saying it is not the Haldol effect anymore, but i was not like this before the shot.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Your present symptoms are the side effects of Haldol (Haloperidol), which is well established and known to be caused by Haldol. These are called extra-pyramidal side effects of Haldol. Do not worry. It will slowly come down and fade away as time goes by. I suggest you take the medicines as advised below for a few days and let us observe. (Consult your doctor, discuss with them, and take medicine under their consent).

  1. Tablet Ropinirole 0.5 mg once daily after breakfast for five days.
  2. Tablet Clonazepam 0.5 mg once daily after dinner for five days.

Make sure to have plenty of water per day.

If in case, the symptoms persist even after medications, I would advise you to visit an offline neurologist and psychiatrist in person for better guidance.

Patient's Query

Thank you for the reply doctor,

I am concerned that I was not worried about medicines before taking the Haldol injection. I was not too fond of drugs. However, I stay confused and keep thinking after taking the Haldol injection. My judgement is cloudy, and I cannot sleep at all. How do I force my body to sleep? I have gotten eight hours in three to four days.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Do not worry. The symptoms will settle down. As you had mentioned, you do not like medicines previously. So maybe that mindset makes you think and worry more about the treatment. Or the other way around, when you did not like medicines. Now, this tablet is making some elated responses in your brain. So it is getting addicted to it. The best solution is not to keep thinking about this medicine and its effects. Instead, keep diverting your mind and concentrate on something else like music, movies, or any of your hobbies.

Things will come into place. Do not worry about it.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
