Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 48-year-old male with a height of 5' 8" feet and weight of 250 pounds. No health problems. Blood pressure is 118/70 mmHg. Total cholesterol is 165 mg/dL, LDL is 99 mg/dL, Hdl is 46 mg/dL and Triglycerides 101 mg/dL. Had sonography of heart and said I had a mild LA dilation of 4.8 cm. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

No major concern but it would be important to know why your left atrium is dilated. It may be because of higher blood pressure or problems with the heart valves or due to any heart muscle problem. I recommend you see a specialist as you might need some additional workup, perhaps a heart rhythm monitoring and or a stress test.

The Probable causes

The probable causes are high blood pressure, and valvular disease.

Investigations to be done

Do heart rhythm monitor.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
