Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have not been able to feel my heartbeat in my chest for almost a week, not even when my heart rate increases.

Sometimes, this numbness or lack of feeling spreads to my neck, throat, jaw, and face.

I have been taking the tablet Pravastatin 10 mg and the tablet Aspirin 81 mg.

I got a CT of the chest and abdomen done and, some blood tests too.

The blood report shows some abnormalities and the doctor claims that it is nerve-related.

However, my neurologist said that it must be cardiology-related.

What is going on with me?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query. I am sorry for the discomfort you are having.

The normal heart rate is between 60 to 100 beats per minute. In your physical sign, the pulse rate is mentioned as 67 beats per minute which is normal.

During resting-state if we are overly aware, we can feel the heartbeat and we can feel the heartbeat pounding when we do any form of exercise.

You mention that you do not feel heartbeat even when the rate goes up, which seems unusual.

Have you measured the resting heartbeat by palpating the radial pulse?

Have you done a resting ECG (electrocardiogram) to know the heart rate or any abnormal rhythm?

Do other tests show any abnormal findings?

Do you have any symptoms related to bradycardia (decreased heartbeat below 60 per minute) like lightheadedness or dizziness, easily tiredness, shortness of breath during activity, fainting or near-fainting, etc.?

If it is related to a heart rhythm problem you may need to do Holter monitoring, if standard ECG is unable to pick any problem that might be present.

I saw the files you have attached (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

The monocytes are increased in nearly all the tests done at different dates. Recent lymphocyte percentage is decreased.

The normal monocyte count is between 2% to 8% of white blood cells count.

There are many causes for this such as viral infection, inflammation, stress, etc. but at the same time neutrophil counts are in the normal range.

Please reply to the above questions to possibly guide you further.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had multiple ECGs done. All were normal. I have also had an echocardiogram of 48 hours and 30 days of monitoring.

All tests were normal.

In addition to not being able to feel my heartbeat in my chest, I also get partial numbness in my left arm, side of the neck, side of the face, and tongue. All numbness seems to be associated with the left side of my body.

The hospital said they suspected it was nerve-related, but the neurologist said it is not possible.

I am so confused as to how I can have all these crazy symptoms with no answer.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The multiple ECGs (electrocardiograms), Holter monitor, and echocardiogram that are done show normal results, which suggests that your problem is not related to the cardiovascular system.

Partial numbness in your left arm, side of the neck, face, and tongue and, unable to feel the sensation in the cardiac region of the chest suggests some kind of nerve-related pathology. It could be peripheral nerve involvement.

Based on the above medical history, I can say it is nerve-related and necessary investigation should be done to know the pathology.

You should consult a neurologist as the symptoms of partial numbness is present for one week and, get the necessary investigations like MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the brain, cervical spine, and NCV (nerve conduction velocity) test done to locate the lesion.

Get guidance from the neurologist and the necessary tests as suggested by the doctor would definitely give the answer to your present problem, and the treatment can be initiated if any pathology is found in the tests.

I wish you get the diagnosis at the earliest and treatment accordingly.

Take care.

Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
