HomeAnswersObstetrics and GynecologyheartbeatI am pregnant, and the heartbeat of the baby is not felt. Why?

What to do if a baby's heartbeat is not detected at the eighth week of pregnancy?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am eight weeks and two days pregnant. But still, no heartbeat of the baby is found.

During five weeks and four days of the scan, cervix measures 3.4 centimeters and the G sac measures 0.45 centimeters. The decidual reaction is seen. Internal OS appeared closed.

The doctor advised me to come for a check-up after two weeks. Normal heartbeat of a fetus is present at eight weeks. But our fetus's heart rate is not seen in eight weeks.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your history and report (attachment removed for patient identity protection) and understand your concerns.

As your ultrasound shows, it is a five weeks pregnancy, it could be a late conception, and you are five weeks pregnant, not eight weeks pregnant.

  1. Get your blood beta hCG (chronic human gonadotropins) level monitored.
  2. Are you bleeding?
  3. Are you having pain? If not no need to worry about it. Sometimes early conception causes these findings.
  4. Take a Folic acid tablet and Progesterone to support pregnancy.
  5. Repeat ultrasound after two weeks to see fetal cardiac activity.

Hope to hear from you soon. Feel free to ask for more information.

Thank you.
