Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am sharing some images with you. These two patches were light pink in color and had just a weird bumpy texture. After I shaved over them, they are both very red, give a burning sensation, and look like actual sores. I do not know what they are. Does this look like an STD (sexually transmitted disease)? I am scared it is herpes or HPV (human papillomavirus). It just showed up and only started to hurt after shaving my pubic area. Kindly advise on what to do.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. I have gone through the details you presented and the image shared by you (The images have been removed to protect the patient's privacy). Although it looks like herpes, and hence you may consider having an STD (sexually transmitted diseases), please tell me the following:

  1. Is there any itching at the places where these sores have appeared?
  2. Are you experiencing any fever?
  3. Are you experiencing any headaches?
  4. Did you recently get involved in unprotected intercourse, which could be vaginal, anal, or oral?

Provide me the above information for better assessment and start antiviral medication if required.

My immediate recommendations in the meantime are:

  1. Use a soft good gentle feminine wash to clean the area and keep the area dry.
  2. Wear loose cotton undergarments.
  3. Avoid intense workouts.
  4. Avoid intercourse, especially unprotected intercourse.

Get yourself tested, share the report, and share the details requested by me. Even if the test is positive, there is nothing to worry about as it can be treated. Also, please let me know if you are having any problems in periods like irregular periods. Feel free to ask any questions or share any additional information if required.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have no fever or headache. My entire pubic area has been extremely itchy and dry for a few weeks. What could be the reason?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you apply Soframycin cream (Framycetin) on the area twice daily for five days. It appears like a razor cuts with a superimposed infection.

Here are my suggestions:

  1. Do not repeat the same razor multiple times.
  2. Trim the pubic hair with scissors for some time.
  3. Apply simple moisturizer or coconut oil if the area feels dry and itchy.
  4. If the symptoms do not subside or increase, you can go for STD screening.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
