Can herpes spread by sharing a glass with a person with sores?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a bit nervous. Someone took a sip from my glass two days ago. The next day, this person had blisters around their mouth. So I am terrified I will get herpes. However, I still have not experienced any blisters, tingling, or burning sensations around my lips.

Nevertheless, I am scared that I have got herpes. Is it possible that I have it despite the fact that I have no symptoms around my lips? What are these possibilities? I always experience symptoms of viral infections before the usual incubation time. I did, however, masturbate with saliva the other day. Could I have transferred it onto my genitals?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Based on the information provided, your worries look legitimate yet slightly accurate. In my opinion, it is normal to be afraid of the herpes simplex virus (a virus causing contagious sores, most often around the mouth or on the genitals) blisters because the condition is infectious, but this does not indicate that it spreads quickly. Even if your drink was contaminated, the odds of it spreading are quite low since we require an infective dosage of the virus, which is often not possible with such exposure. The concept of genital herpes is based entirely on fear rather than actual risk. Because you had no direct contact with the person, the chances of herpes spreading to the genital area are extremely minimal.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
