Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have fat, crusty lips, mouth sores, and super sensitive gums while brushing. All of these appeared a month ago. The mouth sores subsided after using mouthwash Orajel. However, the lip and gum problems have persisted.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. I understand your concern. I suggest you follow the below treatment plan:

  1. Oral paste Aphthasol (Amlexanox 5 %) for mouth sores.
  2. A lip balm or moisturizer like white petroleum jelly for crusty lips.
  3. Vitamin C for gum problems.
  4. Vitamin B complex.
  5. Include plenty of fluids, green leafy vegetables, and iron-enriched foods in your diet, and avoid hot and spicy foods.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

Why did all the complaints show up on the same day?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. You have gingivostomatitis, which is an infection of the mouth and gums. It can be caused by certain viruses like herpes simplex virus type 1 or coxsackievirus, bacteria like streptococcus or actinomyces, allergies, exposure to irritating chemicals or products, poor oral hygiene, poor nutrition, dehydration, vitamin deficiencies, alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking, immunocompromised conditions like diabetes or HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) infection, etc. It causes sores on the lips, gums, inner cheeks, red, swollen, painful gums, dry and crusty lips, anorexia, bad breath, swollen neck lymph nodes, fever, etc. A biopsy from the mouth sores will help determine the exact underlying cause and plan the treatment accordingly.

I suggest you rinse your mouth with warm saline water two to three times daily.

I hope this helps.
