Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Before two days, I was 11 days after ovulation, and my beta HCG was 26IU/L. I did the test today (13 days post-ovulation), and it was 32 IU/L. My period was supposed to start tomorrow, and I do not have any symptoms, no blood, and pain. I have an egg white discharge. What am I supposed to do? I had a still birth at 22 weeks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you have been suffering from vaginal discharge, which is white. Your beta HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) was 26 IU/L on the 11th day after ovulation and 32 IU/L on the 13th day after ovulation. You had a history of still birth at 22 weeks.

Beta HCG, known as the pregnancy hormone, may first be detected by a blood test about 11 days after conception and 12-14 days after conception by a urine test. Usually, it will double every 72-96 hours. And anything above 25 IU/L is considered positive for pregnancy about the 11th day after ovulation. So take a rest and observe your beta HCG level. Beta HCG can increase in some diseases like miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, pituitary HCG producing diseases, trophoblastic disease, etc.

A bit of whitish vaginal discharge may occur at the beginning of the menstrual cycle is normal. But if this discharge is associated with itching and a thick, cottage-cheese-like appearance is not normal and needs treatment. It may be caused by a yeast infection and known as candidiasis. So you can make some investments like CBC (complete blood count), USG (ultrasound) of W/A, vaginal swab for C/S, Urine R/M/E for the detection of the underlying cause for whitish vaginal discharge.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My CBC was normal. I want to know if the beta HCG levels are normal? I think that the numbers are so low, especially in my past pregnancy. I did a test at 15 DPO, and it was 1200. I am afraid that I have a chemical pregnancy.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have already mentioned this. Anything above 25 IU/L may indicate as positive for pregnancy about the 11th day after ovulation. Its level may vary due to various reasons. A low level does not mean that you are not pregnant. In the same way, a high level does not always mean that you are pregnant. You can repeat your beta HCG test 15 or 16 days after ovulation as it can become double every 72-96 hours.

Again before starting your menstrual cycle, beta HCG levels may increase up to certain limit. So it will be wise to take rest and observe your beta HCG level without any anxiety or stress. If your menstrual cycle starts on the due date, then everything will be clear. Again if you will have a missed cycle and your beta HCG level become raised enough to detect pregnancy, it will clarify everything.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
