Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Last year, we did an annual checkup for my daughter and found that her vitamin B12 levels were very low. The doctor prescribed vitamin drops and asked her to continue. A few days back, we had her annual blood checkup, and her vitamin B12 levels were high (around 2000 ng/mL). What could be the reason for this? Do we need to stop her vitamin supplements?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Her vitamin B12 levels are too high. The very first thing is to stop the supplement. One should not depend on one isolated laboratory report, so check the vitamin B12 level again. If the repeated level is also high, I suggest you consult a pediatrician for a detailed work-up. If other specific blood reports come back normal, then there is nothing to worry about. As vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin, after stopping the supplement, it will decrease.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
