Can iron deficiency anemia cause high WBC and platelet count?

Hello doctor,

I am healthy, though I have been a little more tired lately. My WBC count is 13.73, my platelet count is 351, and my immature granulocytes are 1.4. I have had high blood pressure for years now and take Atenolol daily. In addition, I was just put on cholesterol medication and take Zyrtec and iron daily. Last year I had high WBC and platelets and was diagnosed with an iron deficiency. I brought my iron levels up on the last blood test, then seemed to level out my WBC and platelets.

Kindly help.

I understand your concern. The blood values mentioned in reports seem to be within the limit. Immature granulocytes are released in the blood when infection or inflammation is present, and so it is released into the blood. It is called the shift to the left if you have a fever or other complaints.
