Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 28 years old. I am about 143 lbs and 5.6 feet in height. I doubt my CBC. Last two months ago, in the CBC test, my WBC was reduced to 5000 from 5600, and my Hb was increased to 17 gm. I repeated CBC. In the report, WBC was increased to 5800, and Hb is 16.5 gm. Is it normal? I have a history of pneumonia before 12 years ago, and it was cured. Is it anything to worry about? Please share your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Following is my opinion for your asked question. In the attached report (attachment removed to protect patient identity), hematocrit, WBC count, and RBC count are absolutely normal.

Do not worry about variations in the total WBC count. According to the different physiological conditions, the count can varied. But it is within the range. So no need to worry. Your hemoglobin count can be considered slightly high. For that, kindly let me know whether you have a smoking history.

I suggest you drink lots of water, at least two to three liters per day. Repeat your CBC (complete blood count) after a few days of more water drinking and revert with the follow-up report.

In my opinion, you do not need to worry about your CBC report. However, it is advisable to revert to me with a follow-up CBC after a few days. Meanwhile, if you have a smoking habit, then let me know about that.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

No, I do not have a smoking habit. And in my reports, did you observe that my MCHC level is high of 37. Why is it high? Is it normal? Anything to worry about?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

MCHC (mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration) level is borderline high. So no need to worry.

MCHC indicates hemoglobinization of RBC (red blood corpuscles). Your hemoglobin level is slightly high, so that might be the reason for your slight raise in MCHC.

Drink more water and follow up with the CBC report after three to four weeks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
