Hi doctor,
I am gay. I had sex with a guy today. We had kissing, oral sex, and anal sex. Both oral and anal sex was with protection. I even changed condoms between the activities. He ejaculated outside and not in my anus. But after sex, he disclosed that he is also into unprotected anal sex, and the last he had was a few months ago. Now I am paranoid, thinking, what if the condom had a scar or leak and some of his precum had come in contact with my rectum? Am I at risk of HIV? If yes, when should I get tested for a sure result? Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
The chances of transmitting HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) by single protected intercourse with an HIV-positive person is almost nil if a condom is used correctly. The chances of HIV transmission by protected oral sex are nil and kissing is almost nil unless there are bleeding wounds in the oral cavity. It is unlikely. If he is HIV-negative, there is no chance of transmission. You may not require PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) with the given details. However, you can consult your doctor for further risk assessment and PEP needs. PEP must be initiated as early as possible, not after 72 hours of exposure. It would be helpful to go for an HIV antibodies test as a baseline and after three months of exposure for conclusive results.
Kind regards.
