Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

How risky is unprotected oral sex? I received an oral sex from a commercial sex worker for about 10 seconds. I do not have any cut or sore on my penis and I do not know about the HIV status of that girl? Am I in a danger of receiving HIV? I feel slight muscle pain in my forearms. Are there any signs of danger?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You are not at risk of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) from receiving oral sex. Again, muscle pain may be due to some other causes, not a sign of STD (sexually transmitted disease).

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

So, do I need to get myself tested for HIV or is that not required? Because I remember she gave me oral sex without even uncovering the outer skin of my penis.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Testing for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is not needed after oral sex.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I anticipated that I might get gonorrhea through oral sex and thus have started taking tablet Ciplox for the last three days twice daily and since yesterday I have been having tendon muscle pain as I had mentioned earlier. Should I stop taking that medicine as I do not know whether I will be affected by gonorrhea or not? Is this pain a side effect of Ciplox 500 mg.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As you have started Ciplox (Ciprofloxacin and Tinidazole) 500 mg, I suggest complete the course for five days twice daily and then stop. So you need to take it for two days more. I suggest you take tablet Lyser DP (Diclofenac, Paracetamol, and Serratiopeptidase) twice daily for five days for tendon pain. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take the medicines with their consent. Pain is not a side effect of Ciplox.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Is this pain an early symptom of HIV? I have read on the internet that the numbness of the arms is the symptoms. As you said, I am not affected and need no testing. I just want to confirm.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Pain is not a symptom of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). Do not worry and forget about HIV from this exposure.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Is there any reported case in the world of a person getting affecting through this exposure? I do not know why now I am getting more worried.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There is no reported case of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) transmission by saliva.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am glad to get all your responses.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You are most welcome. Feel free to clear any doubts.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Actually, I thought of having an opinion about IgM. Does negative IgM mean I will not be affected by the virus?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Can you send me the test report? Is it HSV (herpes simplex virus) 1 or 2? As you did not have a genital contact, things are different.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have attached the file.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the attachments (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Yesterday you told me that she was tested for genital herpes and since you did not have genital contact with her, I gave you the opinion accordingly. However, this report is combined for both HSV (herpes simplex virus) 1 and 2 that is both genital and non-genital herpes virus so it cannot differentiate whether she has genital herpes or non-genital herpes or both. Individual IgG (immunoglobulin G) HSV 1 and IgG HSV 2 tests are required to know which form of herpes she has.

If she has oral herpes, chances of transmission are there, though quite less than active infection that is IgM (immunoglobulin M) positive. You can get tested for HSV 1 and 2 after four to six weeks of exposure. In many individuals, herpes virus may be dormant for years or even for a lifetime. So they never develop symptoms of herpes even though they may be infected.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is this because of chicken pox, HSV, or anything else? I am worried.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Most commonly, such presentations are seen due to HSV or herpes. Less commonly, it can be due to chickenpox. At this stage, both will appear similar and impossible to differentiate clinically.

If such regions are repeated, it is due to herpes, and if they never occur again after your chickenpox is relieved, it is due to varicella chicken pox.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What lotion to apply as of now? I have been taking Acyclovir tablet 800 mg, five times a day, for 4.5 days for my chicken pox. Do I need some extra medication for HSV?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you continue taking the Acyclovir tablet for seven days total and then stop. No other medicine is required. You can apply Fudic cream (Fusidic acid) twice a day over the erosions over the genitalia. Consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take medications with their consent.

Good luck.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Do I still require a blood test for HIV? Yesterday, you told me that many doctors look at six weeks test for this type of exposure, which means I will have to test at six weeks. But earlier, you said that no tests are required, and I need not worry.

Kindly elucidate. I am all confused and scared.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There is no need for six week test for your exposure.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Today I had mild stomach pain and loose motion (not watery) several times. It is to be worried about, as I read it is one of the symptoms.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If loose stools last for two to three weeks along with major weight loss, then it can be a symptom of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

But you said earlier that I am free from HIV.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

In your case, there is nothing to worry about with HIV, whatever symptoms may come.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Then should I not be bothered about the symptoms?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I never said that you could become positive in the future. Maybe you misunderstood my answer.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Why am I having mild pain in my abdomen for the past two days? I took Meftal-Spas tablet. Why is all this happening? Is it the after-effect of high dosages of Acyclovir tablet?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, it is not due to Acyclovir. Maybe you have a mild stomach infection due to food poisoning, which caused loose stools earlier. I suggest you take Meftal-Spas (Dicyclomine and Mefenamic acid) as and when required.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Are you 100 % sure that I am and will remain negative and that I do not need further testing?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, do not worry.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is there any other STI that I need to get myself checked for? I have been having pain in my abdomen for three to four days, and it is making me worried.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

From the type of contact you had, there is no STD (sexually transmitted disease) that can present as abdominal pain.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Should I just visit a general physician and ask him without telling him about my contact?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, sure you can visit the doctor.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My HSV 2 came back positive. I got IgG and IgM, both tested as well. Apart from this, according to you, do I need any testing for other STDs, including HIV, regardless of the abdominal pain I have been having for 4 to 5 days ?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

HSV (herpes simplex virus) came positive, and for that, you have already taken Acyclovir. You can consult a physician for abdominal pain. STD testing is not required.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Am I negative for both HIV 1 and HIV 2? I have seen that HIV 2 antibodies take longer to get detected. I had done my test 4th generation duo on the 36th day and got negative.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There is no such difference according to guidelines. 4th generation test detects both HIV 1 and 2 accurately.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had asked whether I am conclusive for both HIV 1 and HIV 2, looking at my 36th-day duo test negative under any circumstances. I got confused regarding HIV 2; that is why I asked you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I did understand your question. Yes, you are conclusively negative for HIV 1 and 2.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My abdominal pain is fine now, but today I had a constant headache for 3 to 4 hours, and mildly now as well. As you said earlier, I should not mind these changes and not treat them as a symptom, and nothing to worry about HIV, whatever symptom may come.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you take the tablet Paracetamol as required for headaches. Nothing to worry about regarding HIV.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took this HIV PCR, and the report will come on Tuesday.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Do not worry about it. It will be negative.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Have you ever, in your experience, seen a negative test at the 6-week duo and negative PCR turning positive after 12 weeks? I got a negative report yesterday, but I am still worried like before.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I would suggest you start an anti-anxiety medication. I have not seen this combination turning positive.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Does the medicine Trika or Anxit containing salt alprazolam (IV drug) have any effect on HIV test results (maybe delayed seroconversion after 12 weeks)? I am asking you this because I have been taking this medicine for quite a long time now.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, it does not have any such effect on HIV test results. But take it under the guidance of your doctor, as these medicines are addictive.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I went to a gastroenterologist for my abdomen pain, and he told me to do a CT scan of the whole abdomen with contrast. In this test, I will have to drink a liquid before the X-ray. This liquid contains either barium or a substance called gastrografin (diatrizoate meglumine and diatrizoate sodium liquid). Barium and gastrografin are both chemicals that help doctors get better images of your stomach and bowels.

My question is, does this liquid or salt has any effect on the HIV test results? I read that it may cause delayed antibody response or delayed seroconversion.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, barium or gastrografin does not affect HIV results in any manner.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is burning on the anus after defecation a symptom of HIV? I tested on the 76th day, and that came negative. Today is my 81st day. Do I need more testing?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, this is not a symptom of HIV. Itching on the anus could be due to yeast infection and is very common among the general population. You do not need further testing.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is VDRL curable? I think I have it. My sample has gone for retesting. I am very scared.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Good to know that your sample has come back negative.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
