Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

At around 32 and 37 days after having intercourse, I did the TRI-DOT rapid HIV test, and both showed negative. During the intercourse, no bodily fluids were exchanged. I just ejaculated outside the vagina, and insertion was not done. We were not involved in oral sex too. Should I repeat the same test after 15 days? I have gas trouble, indigestion, no fever, and no sweats. Kindly help me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) tests give a conclusive result after six weeks of exposure. Your HIV report came negative, and you did not have any high-risk sexual exposure. So, your chance of acquiring HIV is significantly less. So, there is not much to worry about. However, for a piece of mind, kindly repeat the test after three months of exposure to completely exclude the possibility of HIV.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

So, should I get the test done again after six weeks? Also, why do I sometimes feel a pricking with a needle kind of sensation? Kindly help me.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As per the guidelines, you should do the HIV test after six weeks and then after three months of exposure to completely exclude HIV. So, I suggest you repeat the test after three months of exposure even though your chance of acquiring HIV is minimal. Therefore, there is nothing to worry about. The pricking sensation could be due to some other cause like vitamin B12 deficiency, diabetes, etc. Kindly revert with test reports after six weeks.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have tested for both vitamin B12, and vitamin D vitamin and they are somewhat low. After that the doctor suggested one test and it was also negative. I have been suggested three-month course of vitamin B12 and vitamin D. My query is whether I should take a test now or after three months of completing the course. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Glad to have you back.

Since the levels of your vitamin B12 and vitamin D are low, you can take the prescribed medications. There is no need to repeat vitamins B12 and D estimation. As far as HIV report is concerned, I have already said that HIV test should be repeated after three months of sexual exposure. Your HIV report is negative. So do not worry. But still repeat it after three months of exposure to conclusively rule out HIV. Hope this will help you. Let me know if you have further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I took this test after 40 days of exposure.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Glad to have you back.

Yes. It is negative. So, the chance of having HIV is almost nil. However, as per guidelines it is better to repeat it after three months of exposure.

I hope you understand my answer. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Hello,

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

As you said earlier that pinching sensations could be due to low levels of vitamin B12, I would like to know after how many months of taking vitamin B12 and vitamin D would the levels get corrected. Is it okay to take the COVID-19 booster dose? Is taking normal rapid test enough after three months of exposure? Please let me know about this.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Regaining levels of vitamin B12 would depend upon the mode of intake of vitamin B12. With injection, improvement could be seen in week. With tablets, the levels of vitamins B12 and D would return to normal within one to two months. It is fine to take the COVID-19 booster dose. After three months of exposure, rapid card test is enough. I hope this will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have been experiencing pinching sensation already and sometimes I feel like something in the nerves is moving especially in the hand. I rub it as if I have itching but actually there is nothing present. I am taking tablets only. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Alright, please continue taking the tablet. These symptoms could be due to nerve involvement caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. However, you should visit a nearby physician and get yourself physically examined as well.

I hope I have resolved your queries. Do get back if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
