Can HIV cause mouth ulcers 5 years after sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Lately, I have been having mild throat pain. The pain seems to be responsive to light medication. For two days, I have had skin rashes and, as of today, mouth ulcerations. It seems these are HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) symptoms. I do not have any other symptoms like fever or fatigue.

The last unprotected sexual contact was five years ago. Could it be HIV? I also have fibrocystic mastitis and probably a hormone imbalance. I am thinking maybe the skin rashes are hormonal. But the mouth ulceration really scares me.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to iCliniq.com.

After five years, it may be seasonal or viral. There is a low chance of HIV. Consult an ENT specialist and take the following medications:

  1. Tantum (Benzydamine) liquid gargle before meals twice.
  2. Tablet Augmentin 625 mg (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) two times a day after food for three to five days.
  3. Tablet Signoflam (Paracetamol and Aceclofenac) two times a day after food for three to five days.
  4. Montek LC (Levocetirizine and Montelukast), one at night for seven to ten days for rashes.

It does not seem to be an HIV infection.

Kind regards.
