Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had a high-risk exposure two years back. I tested HIV using HIV PCR qualitative and I got a negative result. I tested it again after three months, six months, and fourteen months. All the results showed me a negative result. Still, I am worried about HIV. I am married and I have fear of having sex with my wife. I want to know whether my results are conclusive. Can I lead a normal sexual life with my wife? Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Do not be worried as you have a negative result for HIV. Kindly send me the reports. You have confusion and anxiety due to continuous searching of symptoms due to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). It causes extreme worries. Kindly avoid it.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have attached my reports.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Your reports show a negative result. You have done a third-generation test. Even though it is predictable, I suggest you do a fourth-generation HIV ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). In this, both antigen and antibodies are measured. It gives more accurate results when compared to the third generation. If it shows you a negative result, then it is conclusive. You do not need to undergo further tests and after that, you do require any precautions.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have done the test and attached the reports.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, your test is perfectly fine. Please mention the time period of exposure and after how days of exposure you are doing the test.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My exposure was before two years. The test was done after a year of exposure. Is it conclusive? Can I lead a normal sexual life with my wife? I am very scared to do it.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, it is conclusive with a negative result. You can lead a normal life in all aspects and you forget about the incident and move on.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
