Can there be positive HSV-IgG in blood without genital lesions?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have never had any genital lesions, but I recently tested positive for HSV-2 IgG with 2.29 Hg. What is the likelihood that this is a false result?

Answered by Dr. Deepti Shukla

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Do not worry. I will help you with your concern. If HSV-IgG is positive, you must have had a herpes infection. Once infected with the HSV virus, you will always test positive for HSV-IgG. Any person once infected with herpes remains infected life long. Once the virus has entered your body, it will stay in your system. And lesions do not need to occur in infected patients. Herpes patients can remain asymptomatic. And there is significantly less chance that it is a false positive. If you are still worried about the false-positive test, you can repeat the test. I hope I have cleared all your doubts. Thanks and regards.
