Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Can we see if the hymen is still present or broken and there is some infection inside on photographs?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern.

I have gone through the photographs (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). It is not very clear in the image, and it cannot be said with great confidence regarding the state of the hymen. You must be aware that hymen is a very thin membrane, and it can get broken due to various activities like intercourse, horse riding, physical exercise, cycling, etc. Did you recently have sex, or did you try masturbation? From the image, it cannot be confirmed, but it appears to be fine. There are various reconstruction treatments available.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I never had intercourse nor used tampons. Does it look broken? I am worried. Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As said earlier it appears to be fine in image but it appears somewhat shiny so I cannot say that it is fully intact. Why are you so worried as there are several reasons for hymen rupture? It is pretty normal.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

It is not easy to prove that I am a virgin if there is no blood during first intercourse. I am worried about that.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Postcoital bleeding generally happens after first intercourse with hymen breaking and many other reasons like minor cuts and bruises or when you are not wet or lubricated, or when the partner is big and rough during intercourse. Even after hymen breaking, it is not necessary that one should bleed. Bleeding is not necessarily a sign of hymen breaking. If someone is so keen, then a hymen can be reconstructed.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I do not want to go through any operations and I have never even touched the area as I am afraid.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is not recommended to undergo surgery for virginity. The pain during the first intercourse and the fear or anxiety indicates whether a girl had intercourse earlier or not. When the intercourse is near to periods, that can also trigger bleeding. Bleeding for girls without any prior intercourse is highly probable due to various issues explained above.
