You may have Valium whenever needed. It may cause drowsiness so avoid before important events. What about your BP readings? You mentined those to be elevated. Mildy elevated readings are fine and needs monitoring and lifestyle modifications.

They vary but are going down. A few days ago it was 117/71. A couple of days ago it was 140 over 88. But I had just gotten off from work.

It is borderline. Needs no treatment. BP is a highly variable parameter so it will change with a level of activity, stress, etc. So, you should take readings at home after sitting comfortably for 5 to 10 minutes. At present, you should just monitor it frequently, say two to three times daily for a week period, whenever you are relatively free, and if most of the BP readings are below 140/90, then needs no treatment.
