Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 39-year-old female. I have been experiencing significant tiredness, palpitations, tremors, and feeling hot when others are feeling cold. I have lost 11 lbs over the past two weeks without any effort or exercise. I have also noticed a swelling over the front of my neck. My eyelids have a slightly puffy appearance and my friends have commented that I often look like I am ‘staring’. I do not have a previous history of the same issue. I have had a history of type 2 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis for the past two years. I take tablet APO-Metformin XR 500 mg (Metformin) and tablet Minidiab 5 mg (Glipizide) half a tablet daily to control diabetes and tablet APO-Ibuprofen 400 mg (Ibuprofen) one tablet daily for joint pain. I often forget and do not take my medication regularly. I do not get enough opportunity to exercise and depend on outside food for my lunch. I eat unhealthy snacks and ice creams. I have a habit of smoking five to six cigarettes every day.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

The symptoms that you are experiencing suggest that you have hyperthyroidism most probably due to Graves disease. I assume that you will be meeting an endocrinologist soon. I suggest you medications like tablet Methimazole or Carbimazole along with tablet Propranolol to start with. The possible side effects of these medicines are to be discussed. Permanent options like surgery or radio Iodine ablation should also be considered. The prospects and consequences of all of these are to be discussed and then a decision is to be made. Do discuss the above-mentioned things with your doctor and start the treatment soon.

Kindly revert for more queries. Hope this was helpful.

Regards.
