Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a 2.5 months old son. Can I take I-pill to prevent unwanted pregnancy? Is it safe?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. If you are at risk of getting pregnant and if you are a breastfeeding mother, it does not affect the quality or quantity with a single dose of taking I-pill (Levonorgestrel) However, I strongly recommend to avoid taking I-pill or any other contraceptive pill very often because the regular use of it can cause complications in the subsequent pregnancy. Please feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Will I-pill affect my baby and is it safe to take it now?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I-pill proper belongs to a progestin family drug and it will not cause any major side effect. You can take it. However, as I requested earlier, as you do not have a period for the last two and a half months and as you do breastfeeding, you need not worry about pregnancy. Your chances of pregnancy is approximately two percent only. God bless you always. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.
