Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Is it necessary to take second i-pill within the time span of 24 hours after having sexual intercourse? I have already taken one and had sexual intercourse. Kindly reply.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read and understood your problem.

  • Opinions vary. It is a post sex pill. So, has to be taken after sex and not before sex.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Since it is high dosage medicine and it disturbs periodic cycle badly, as per the piramal customer care only one pill is recommended to be taken once in a month. I am 24 now. I want to know; does it have any side effect in future while conceiving? Shall I surely take another one?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is only 95 % protective even if taken within 24 hours of sex.

It contains 1.5 mg of progesterone which is higher than normal contraceptive pills (usually containing 0.15 mg). So, it is suggested that it should not be taken more than once in a month to discourage repeated use.

But remember regular pills are taken 21 in a month that is 21 x 0.15 mg = 3.15 mg equal to two i-pills.

If you take two pills in a month then you may have abnormal bleeding pattern. Only one or two irregular cycles you will face.

It will not affect your future pregnancy potential. Whether to take another pill depends on these facts.
