Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife is 37 years old and she had her last period before 25 days. We had unprotected sex after four days and I did not do ejaculation inside her. We again had unprotected sex after two days and I ejaculated with deep penetration. She took I-pill on the next day. She had some bleeding or spotting of brown color before a week. But she did not have periods. Today, she had some white creamy discharge. Is there any chance for her to be pregnant? When she can do a pregnancy test?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. Unprotected sex done after a week of getting periods can lead to pregnancy as the withdrawal method is not a reliable method of birth control. Now, unprotected intercourse did after ten days of getting periods shows fewer chances to become pregnant because she had taken an emergency contraceptive pill on the next day and hence she is safe from pregnancy. Light bleeding or spotting can occur due to a side effect of the I-pill (Levonorgestrel) and it is a hormone-based pill. These pills can cause a delay in periods up to ten days. You can do a pregnancy test today and it is preferable to do with the first urine of the day maybe tomorrow morning. Do not drink too much fluid prior to your test. Adhere to all the guidelines written on the package of the pregnancy test kit. Please share the results for further management of your menstrual health.
