Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have got swelling in the groin area. I clean the groin area daily. I suppose this is because of excess body heat. It appeared the day after I did a long drive of 12 hours from my hometown. And the place was too hot.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Do you have itching and a similar skin lesion on another side of the thigh? Is this the first time you are having this problem? In the picture (attachment removed to protect patient identity), it looks like tinea cruris which is a fungal infection of the groin. The picture is not very clear. I do not see any fluid-filled blisters. Is there oozing of fluid from the bumps?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

There is no itching, but I have a slight burning sensation and pain when touched. I cannot wipe the area. I can only tap and clean it. There is no similar lesion on the other side. I had the same problem mostly during summers but not sure if this is similar to the previous ones. I do not see any fluid in the bumps, and no fluid was oozing through it. I have added some more pictures (the white thing you see is the ointment that I applied last night). The burning sensation and the pain decreased somewhat after using it.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I wanted to make sure that it is not shingles or herpes. There are no blisters as I can see in the pictures (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Features are consistent with tinea cruris with those red, irritated bumps and with elevated borders at the edge. It is common during the summer. Your ointment sounds like ayurvedic one, and I am not sure about the contents of that ointment.

Kindly consult your doctor to discuss the suggestion and take the treatment with consent. I would suggest you use,

1. Luliconazole 1 % cream, apply a thin layer to the affected areas at night for four weeks.

2. Abzorb dusting powder (Clotrimazole), apply to the groin in the morning, it is important to keep the area dry for four weeks.

3. Kz (Ketoconazole) soap to wash the affected area of groin once a day, use your regular soap for other parts of your body.

4. Tablet Fluconazole 150 mg, take one tablet at night after food, two times a week for four weeks. You will have to buy only eight pills for four weeks.

Keep the area dry and clean, wear loose-fitting cotton inner wears which allows good air flow. Avoid inner wear when you are at home and do not use wet inner wears. Do not share towels with others.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
