Q. I am unable to sleep even after taking pills. How to manage it?
Hi doctor,
I have a sleep disorder. Even taking pills does not help me. I have diabetes and high blood pressure. Due to sleep disorder, I remain upset during my working days and it increases my blood pressure and sugar. I am taking Insulin Novomix 50, Anvol 5 mg, Telmisartan, and Rivotril 2 mg.

There are certain things to be followed to have good sleep. You need to maintain sleep hygiene. Once you start doing it, your sleep will get improved soon. Keep your bedroom calm, quiet, and dark. Maintain regular hours of sleeping and wake up. Use your bed only for sleeping. Do not eat on the bed or talk on the phone or watch television or reading on the bed. Avoid taking coffee or tea or cigarettes after 5 pm. Try to relax yourself an hour before your usual sleeping time. Go to sleep only when you feel sleepy. Do not lie on the bed tossing and turning because it will disturb your sleep. These ideas help your brain to fall asleep slowly as you reach the bed. If you are lying up on the bed and unable to sleep for an hour, then wake up, walk for some time, listen to soft music and then come back and try again. Try to taper down Rivotril slowly as you seem to be dependent on it and you are taking a high dose. You can take tablet Quetiapine 50 mg at 7 pm. It helps to give sleep without getting addicted to it.
