Patient's Query

I noticed some change in my throat as if my right tonsil was enlarged, but Im not sure. what coud it be? i dont have pain at all in throat, just a headache and ear pain

Hi

Thanks for briefing regarding the problem in concern. I had a detailed look at the picture you have sent. There is absolutely nothing that you need to worry about. Tonsils represents the first line of defence for the body from the oropharyngeal side. Any inflammation indicates on going inflammation in the throat due to a infectious or non infectious cause. Its common to see tonsils enlarge on one side. However, the size and appearacne of the tonsils dont indicate any form of cancer or malignancy and hence there is absolutely nothing that you need to worry about. Please keep note of the following points to prevent any source of inflammatory agents creating a response in the throat causing inflammation of the throat and tonsils. 1. Salt water gargling 6 to 8 times a day as long as possible. 2. Avoid cold fizzy beverages, avoid spicy, oily and junk food. 3. Keep sipping on boiled warm water every 2 hrs as long as possible. 4. Stay away from dust and smoke by wearing an n95 mask. The above precautionary measures do go a long way in keep in the inflammatory activity in the throat at its least. Do keep a watch on the size of the tonsil, if there is any rapid growth or ulcerations over the surface, do get it examined in person with an ent specialist. As of now there is nothing to worry about. I hope this answers your query. If there is anything more that you need to know or enquire, kindly do let us know and we will get back to you ASAP. Warm regards!
