Hello doctor,
I have irregular periods, and it has been delayed for three months. I wanted to take Marvelon as previously taken before marriage. The doctor prescribed me to get my period. I took a pregnancy test twice first, and the result was negative. Should I consult first with my doctor before taking my hormone pills, or can I take them based on the negative result of the pregnancy tests?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Marvelon (Ethinyloestradiol and Desogestrel) is a combined oral Contraceptive pill that can regulate your cycles if not taken for a long time and can be used as a contraceptive. Urine pregnancy test in very early pregnancy is confusing, so to detect pregnancy hormones take a blood test (serum beta hCG) or scan to confirm pregnancy status. If it comes negative, then you can have menstrual induction. I suggest taking the tablet Primolute (Norethisterone) N 10 mg twice daily for seven days and then waiting for menstrual bleeding for one to two weeks. On day two, have blood tests (serum prolactin, insulin, progesterone, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and thyroid function test). Have transvaginal scan outside periods. Discuss all your reports with a gynecologist. Have combined oral contraceptive pills if the blood Pregnancy test comes Negative and then have cyclically for three months. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.
Thank you.
