Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 36 years old. After giving birth to my child two years back, my period changed from 28 to 31, 32, 33, 34. My breast milk is still coming out after breastfeeding my child. My sex drive is low and my vagina is always dry. I cannot get pregnant again.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As you are breastfeeding, it increases milk production as well as delays normal menstrual cycles. With normal regular periods, sex drive remains high and normal menstrual blood flow also continues but as this disturbs sex libido, menstrual flow, mood variation, all appear. If you gradually transfer your child to home-made child food then gradually reduce breastfeeding and start combined oral contraceptive pills to have hormonal support and regular periods. Try to have a balanced diet, weight and BMI and daily exercise to have normal BMI. Do some recreational activities and quit recreational drugs. Listen to music, watch a movie, go for an outing before planning sex, have long foreplay with proper orgasm. As you are breastfeeding, so prolactin level will be high. After gradually reducing and then quitting breastfeeding, check serum prolactin and follow with the result. After quitting breastfeeding, milk extraction or discharge from breast should be stopped. Check serum prolactin after quitting breastfeed. Check for any headache, reduction in vision with milk secretion, then need to have an evaluation by consultant endocrinologist.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
